APJ Solicitors: Advocating for Victims of Professional Negligence

SSB Law has recently featured in the news after giving notice of its intention to appoint administrators.

Following recent court claims in which abuse of process and limitation were considered by the court in a number of its litigated claims.

A few months earlier, in July 2023, the court found that SSB Law had underestimated the value of a significant number of claims leading to multiple findings of abuse of process.

The Judgment of District Judge Dawson was handed down in July this year (‘the July Judgment’), and was highly critical of SSB Law including its conduct, however the District Judge opted not to penalise the claimants it was representing, by allowing those affected cases to continue albeit, subject to caveats and costs sanctions.

The ultimate fate of these claims is still unclear and clients of SSB Law will no doubt be desperately worried about what will happen to their claims.

If you have been affected by any of the issues in these claims brought by SSB Law or any other law firm and you require independent legal advice, APJ Solicitors are available for you to discuss your concerns on our freephone national helpline on 0800 028 9791 or alternatively you can email your enquiry to

APJ Solicitors: Advocating for Victims of Professional Negligence.

Professional negligence within the legal sector can have devastating consequences, particularly when it involves the mishandling of Individual Voluntary Arrangements (IVAs). APJ Solicitors stands at the forefront in aiding victims of such professional misconduct, offering comprehensive assistance and representation for individuals who have been misled into terminating their IVAs prematurely and pursuing claims for mis-sold IVAs.

Case Study:

In 2019, our client was over 30,000 in debt, to improve his circumstances and after search for a solution to his debt problems he entered an IVA with a large IVA company. The Individual Voluntary Arrangement is a legally binding agreement between an individual and their creditors, providing a structured repayment plan to clear debts over a specified period, in this instance he had an agreement to pay back over £6,000 over 6 years with his creditors agreeing to write off over £25,000 of his debt.

By 2022, after paying into his IVA for 3 years and with his circumstances changing, our client responded to a referral to a solicitor’s practice claiming financial mis-selling and enticing people to pursue a mis-sold IVA claim.  With the advert resonating with him, he was convinced to terminate his IVA prematurely and use his disposable income to buy a report into his situation.

Having lost 3 years of IVA fees due to the termination, with no protection from his creditors, the solicitors practice withdrew from the claim after charging him £550 for the report.

He was left high and dry with his creditors circling.

He then reached out to APJ Solicitors for help.

APJ Solicitors recognise the complexities and the sensitive nature of such cases. We specialise in navigating the legal intricacies surrounding mis-sold IVAs and professional negligence claims against solicitors who may have led clients astray. With our extensive experience in handling financial mis-selling claims and professional negligence cases, we strive to deliver justice and restitution for those who have fallen victim to these deceptive practices.

The solution:

The solicitors at APJ Solicitors adopt a client-centric approach, prioritising each individual’s unique circumstances and the impact of professional negligence on their financial stability and overall well-being.

The first step is to deal with the most pressing issue, your current financial situation. In our client’s case we organised free financial advice to assess his options so that he could deal with his debts.

Additionally, we organised a full reconstruction with a regulated Insolvency Practitioner, again free of charge, to assess his circumstances in 2019 to give a professional opinion on what his options at the time should have been.

Through meticulous investigation and thorough examination of the case details, we build robust legal strategies to pursue compensation and rectify the harm caused by the mishandling of claim management services.

Our services encompass a range of crucial aspects:

Case Evaluation: APJ Solicitors organise a detailed assessment of the circumstances surrounding the termination of the IVA and the subsequent mis-sold claim. We provide expert legal advice, explaining the available options and the potential outcomes to the affected individuals.

Negotiation and Litigation: Whether through negotiation or litigation, APJ Solicitors employ a tailored approach to achieve optimal outcomes for their clients. They aim to secure fair compensation and redress for financial losses incurred due to professional negligence.

Compassionate Support: Recognising the emotional toll such legal battles can take, APJ Solicitors offer compassionate support throughout the entire process. They ensure that clients are kept informed, providing reassurance and guidance at every stage.

If you have been affected by the premature termination of your IVA and believe you have been misled into pursuing a mis-sold claim, seeking guidance and legal representation from APJ Solicitors can be a vital step towards reclaiming your rights and obtaining the compensation you deserve.
